The first step to awakening is realizing that they are slaves, prisoners (as in Plato's cave), the automata that perform the tasks imposed by someone else. The human condition is not exactly a state of freedom and happiness. Birth is a labor and comes into the world of pain. But then every stage of growth brings suffering, from the countless crises of childhood diseases, the problems of the maturity of the dramas of old age.
As if this were not enough, the parents, the educational system, society as a whole, religion, advertising and the media do their best to instil ideas, values, needs and behaviors that are not "ours", which were not chosen by us, that does not make us be ourselves and that inevitably leads us to suffer. Above all, keep us from thinking with our heads.

We are social animals yes, but so are the ants and bees. The men have only one size: they are aware. But the awareness atrophies if it is not developed voluntarily with a special meditation.
